Professor Kyoko Ohno-Matsui is globally recognized as a leading expert in the field of pathological myopia research. She currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and is the Director of the Advanced Clinical Center for Myopia at the same institution. She has long been dedicated to studying the pathogenesis of pathological myopia and developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
Professor Kyoko Ohno-Matsui pioneered the use of "three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D MRI)" to visualize the entire ocular morphology in patients with pathological myopia, revealing that the disease is fundamentally related to posterior ocular deformation. She also led the development of ultra-widefield OCT and polarization-sensitive OCT technologies to study posterior staphyloma and changes in scleral microstructure. Furthermore, she has extensively explored the genetic heterogeneity of pathological myopia and discovered its association with variants related to Alport syndrome.
Professor Kyoko Ohno-Matsui has published numerous high-impact academic papers and has been frequently invited to deliver keynote speeches at major international ophthalmology conferences. She has spearheaded multiple international collaborations and consensus projects, playing a pivotal leadership role in global myopia research.
