Tong教授于1993 年毕业于新加坡国立大学，获基础医学学位；1994 年注册成为执业医师；2004 年 11 月获新加坡医学委员会认证，成为眼科专科医师。1996 至 2000 年，他在英国多家医疗机构完成眼科专科培训，2000 至 2004 年在新加坡继续完成培训。他凭借新加坡科技研究局（A*STAR）国家科学奖学金，在美国得克萨斯州休斯顿市贝勒医学院卡伦眼科研究所眼表中心完成为期2 年的角膜研究海外研究员工作，并获得新加坡国立大学博士学位。

Louis教授在杜克 — 新加坡国立大学医学院的眼科临床学术项目中拥有终身教职。现任新加坡眼科研究所（SERI）教育处副处长、眼表研究组主任。他担任亚洲干眼学会副主席，参与多家制药公司的顾问委员会会议，是国际泪膜与眼表协会（TFOS）第二届国际干眼研讨会、国际睑板腺研讨会专项委员会成员，并拥有多项共同发明专利。

Tong教授曾四次荣获新加坡国家医学研究委员会临床科学家奖。他在新加坡国立眼科中心开设专职干眼诊疗门诊，主攻泪液功能障碍与睑板腺疾病，同时运营综合眼科门诊，擅长白内障手术。

Prof Tong graduated in 1993 with basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore, registered as a medical practitioner in 1994 and achieved accreditation as an ophthalmologist by the Singapore Medical Council in November 2004. He completed in training in ophthalmology at various centers in the United Kingdom (1996-2000) and in Singapore (2000-2004). He completed a 2 year overseas cornea research fellowship at the Ocular Surface Center, Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, as part of A*STAR national science scholarship, and a PhD from NUS.

Prof Tong holds a tenured position at the eye-academic clinical program in the Duke-NUS graduate medical school. He is currently deputy director of education, head of ocular surface research group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). He is vice president of Asia Dry Eye Society, involved in advisory board meetings in several pharmaceutical companies, is a subcommittee member of TFOS international dry eye workshop II, international meibomian gland workshop and a co-inventor in a few patents.

Prof Tong has been awarded four times the Clinician Scientist Award from National Medical Research Council. He runs a dedicated dry eye service at the Singapore National Eye Center, focusing on tear dysfunction and Meibomian gland disease, as well as a general eye clinic focusing on cataract surgery.
